Miami-Dade School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman and Miami-Dade School Board member Lubby Navarro add their names to Diaz’s growing list of supporters.

Today, the Manny Diaz Campaign announced the endorsement of two more female elected officials in the Miami-Dade area. Perla Tabares Hantman, Chair of the Miami-Dade County School Board, and Lubby Navarro, Miami-Dade County School Board member are backing Diaz’s re-election to the District 103 seat in the Florida House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2012.

Hantman and Navarro join Hialeah Councilwoman Vivian Casals-Munoz, Miami-Dade County School Board member Susie Castillo, and Doral City Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez, who endorsed Diaz last week.

“I am very happy to support Manny Diaz because he is a solid conservative and a courageous champion of education reform,” said Hantman. “We need Manny to continue the strong leadership role he has taken in Tallahassee to give students and parents more options for an excellent education.”

Hantman was first elected to the Miami-Dade County School Board in 1996 and has been subsequently re-elected. Now in her sixth term, she has been elected an unprecedented nine times to serve as the board’s chair. She has served on various prominent state boards, including the Florida Board of Regents and the Executive Committee of the Florida International University Foundation Board. She is currently serving her fifth term on the Metropolitan Planning Organization.

“Manny Diaz is the right choice for re-election as our State Representative,” said Navarro. “There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue the solid leadership he has provided for education in Florida. He knows we’ve got to get this issue right for the sake of our young people and our state’s future.”

Governor Rick Scott appointed Navarro to the Miami-Dade County School Board last year. In 2011, she was appointed to serve as the Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Grants Administration, and Community Engagement and was later promoted to Executive Director. She is the Public Affairs Office for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, United States Homeland Security, Seventh Coast Guard District, Division 6, Flotilla 65 in South Dade.

“I am so honored to have the support of these dedicated public servants,” said Diaz. “To have the backing of these women leaders who give so much of their time and talent to make our community a better place means the world to me. I look forward to continuing to work with them on the vital economic and education issues that will secure a strong future for our area and our state.”
