Bovo joins a rapidly expanding list of local leaders who say Diaz’s leadership is needed in Tallahassee.

Hialeah, Fla. — Today, the Manny Diaz Campaign announced the endorsement of Esteban “Steve” Bovo, Miami-Dade County Commissioner. Bovo was elected to the post in 2011 and represents District 13, which includes Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Palm Springs North, and several unincorporated communities. First elected in 2012, Diaz is seeking re-election to the District 103 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

“Manny Diaz has done a terrific job representing us in Tallahassee for the past four years,” said Bovo. “He has distinguished himself as an effective leader in several areas, including education reform. I am proud to support him, and believe strongly that we need his continued leadership in the Legislature.”

Before being elected to the County Commission, Bovo served District 110 in the Florida House. He was elected in 2008 and re-elected without opposition in 2010. He also previously served on the Hialeah City Council. He is known as a consensus builder on the Commission and has built a solid reputation as a fiscal hawk and an advocate for more transparent and efficient government. He was elected to serve as the Commission’s Vice Chair last year.

“Commissioner Bovo is a dedicated public servant, and I am honored to have his support,” said Diaz. “I appreciate his leadership and friendship, and I look forward to continuing to work with him as a strong partner in serving our constituents.”

Bovo joins a growing list of local elected officials who are backing Diaz. In recent weeks, Hialeah Gardens Mayor Yioset De La Cruz and the entire Hialeah Gardens City Council endorsed Diaz. In addition, Miami Dade School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman and School Board Members Lubby Navarro and Susie Castillo are supporting Diaz, along with Hialeah City Councilwoman Vivian Casals-Munoz and Doral City Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez.
