Rep. Manny Diaz Jr. is championing a bill to protect Floridians from skyrocketing energy costs.

Hialeah- Representative Manny Diaz Jr. is leading the fight in the Florida House of Representatives against the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Power Plan, a new set of regulations that could cost Florida families millions of dollars.

In response to the recently adopted EPA Clean Power Plan, which mandates that Florida cut carbon dioxide emissions by 26%, Rep. Manny Diaz Jr. has filled a House Bill 639 Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Existing Stationary Sources: that would ensure the State of Florida does not implement these costly regulations without an act of Congress or a federal court ruling.

“As a State Representative it is my job to ensure that over burdensome regulations do not hurt Florida’s most financially vulnerable citizens. It is also my job to push back against a regulation that was adopted by unelected bureaucrats who do not understand what the cost to Floridians will actually be. There are many jobs at risk here: 15,310 coal jobs are being threatened, as well as the 4,200 manufacturing jobs this rule could affect. I’m not going to stand by and let our citizens be at risk.”

This bill will help ensure that legislators have the ability to act in the best interest of all Florida taxpayers by preserving Florida’s sovereign authority over its own electricity needs.
